Mounting/PTO Mechanic

Job Summary

The Mechanic/PTO Technician mounts and wires the power take-off (PTO) and pump on provided chassis. They adjust backlash on gears meshing with transmission and modifies PTOs to meet desired efficiency rating. This person reports directly to the Mounting Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

  • Mounts power take-off (PTO) units and pumps in an efficient manner to maximize production.
  • Follows required procedures when mounting pumps and PTOs to extend product life and minimize warranty claims.
  • Wires truck chassis and mounted PTO.
  • Preps and modifies frames to chassis to be compatible with assigned finished product to be mounted.
  • Mounts finished product on truck chassis or trailer in an efficient manner in order to maximize production.
  • Refers to manufacturer’s manual to assure proper techniques are followed.
  • Checks that the finished product matches the work order and any change orders.
  • Checks the final product for proper functionality.
  • Communicates effectively with other workers to direct personal workflow.
  • Cleans and maintains an orderly work area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of automotive mechanics and mobile hydraulics including transmissions, power take-offs, pumps, valves and automotive wiring (12 volt electrical experience a plus).
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to read tape measure.
  • Math skills including angles and fractions.
  • Good communication skills relative to supervisor and other departments.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical documents and blue prints.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb and work from a ladder.
  • Ability to work and weld in awkward positions.
  • Ability to operate various shop tools including manual, air tools, and power wrenches.
  • Trained in forklift and overhead crane operations.
