Project/Industrial Designer

Job Summary

This position reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for managing projects related to the production processes. This position will be involved with adding manufacturing efficiency and quality to the New Way brand of refuse equipment by working with the large chassis manufactures to create standards designed to be more compatible with the New Way bodies.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinate with truck manufacturers to develop electrical and mechanical standards for chassis to garbage truck body interface.
  • Evaluate customer proposed chassis designs to confirm compatibility with garbage truck body
  • Perform and evaluate weight distributions to assure legal payload meeting federal and state requirements.
  • Utilize Solid Works software to create 3-D documents.
  • Develop electrical and hydraulic schematics to support production and service.
  • Work in team environment with Engineering and Production employees to develop best practices standards.
  • Determine optimum PTO/pump requirements for specific applications.
  • Recommend design modifications to eliminate waste in the manufacturing process.
  • Evaluate bid specifications to determine compliance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology or Engineering related field of study.
  • Proficient with CAD – SolidWorks Preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in Industrial Design position (preferably in mobile equipment field).
  • Process and project management skills with a proven ability to prioritize and manage workload in a high-pressure environment and to instill a sense of urgency in others as necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Solid technology, phone and internet skills, including intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster effective business relationships with internal and external parties.
  • Demonstrate planning and organizational skills with strong attention to detail and concern for accuracy.
  • Physical ability to climb, crawl and to work in awkward positions such as kneeling, bending, stooping and overhead positions.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to operate various shop tools including power and manually operated wrenches.
