Wiring Technician

Job Summary

The Wiring Technician plans layout, installs and repairs wiring, lights, and associated switches on finished products consistent with specifications and all other applicable requirements. Applies brand name and wiring decals to finished product. The person reports to the Mounting Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepares wire looms, mounts lights and switches, and wires finished product in an efficient manner to maximize production.
  • Affixes warning and associated product decals and reflectors as specified.
  • Inspects paint jobs for noticeable problem areas in need of touchup.
  • Maintain accuracy of product by following specifications, work orders, and known practices.
  • Maintains/produces a level of inventory that will minimize production delays.
  • Cleans and maintains an orderly work area.
  • Communicates effectively with other workers to direct personal workflow.
  • Inspects and test own work for function and appearance.
  • Orders needed components through Purchasing.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary and requested by the Mounting Supervisor.
  • Implements all aspects of Lean Manufacturing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of electrical wiring specifically 12 Volt DC.
  • Good communication skills relative to supervisor and other related departments.
  • Math skills including good understanding of fractions.
  • Ability to read tape measure,
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and technical documents.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Physical ability to climb and work on a ladder.
  • Physical ability to work in awkward positions such as kneeling, bending, stooping, crawling, and overhead positions.
  • Ability to operate various shop tools including power and manually operated wrenches.
  • Continually uses hand-gripping action on crimpers.
  • Trained in forklift operation.
