New Way® Introduces CNG Technology To Pennsylvania Region

01.31.13

Pennsylvania - A New Way® compressed natural gas (CNG) recycling truck will help keep costs low while keeping environmental standards high in one Pennsylvania township. Local officials expect the recently purchased refuse truck to save Plains Township thousands of dollars over its lifespan by running on 100% Marcellus Shale Natural Gas.

Plains Township was able to purchase the more environmentally-friendly vehicle with the help of a grant secured in 2010 from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Once the grant was approved, the township began the design and building process with New Way's Tim Burns. The CNG truck is the first of its kind put into service in the region.

"New Way® has made a significant investment in helping our customers purchase state-of-the-art CNG systems for their refuse vehicles as economically as possible," says Phil Allen, Executive VP of New Way® Sales and Marketing. "We are excited about the positive financial and environmental impacts that result from our efforts in areas like Plains Township."

Pennsylvania State Senator John Yudichak (D-14th), State Representatives Eddie Day Pashinski (121st District) and Mike Carroll (118th District), members of the Plains Township Board of Commissioners, and representatives from the Pennsylvania DEP and UGI Utilities were all on hand to help welcome the new truck. UGI Utilities also helped install a CNG refilling station and natural gas heat in Plains Township's Department of Public Works (DPW) garage.

Since 2008, New Way® CNG solutions have been cleaning up communities and lowering operating costs for fleets across the country. New Way® now offers factory CNG integration on most of their trucks, resulting in quicker turnarounds and lower costs for consumers.
