New Way® Runs in Support of Industry Programs and Charities

06.18.13

New Orleans, LA - Representatives from New Way®, a leading manufacturer of refuse trucks based in Scranton, Iowa, recently participated in the Environmental Industry Associations' (EIA) Future Industry Leaders' Alliance (FILA) inaugural FILA 5K Fun Run/Walk in support of the organizations' charitable fundraising efforts. Designed as an activity to help attendees kick off their week at the 2013 Waste Expo, the event drew over 100 participants in its first year.

New Way® participants included New Way® CEO and 2009 EIA Hall of Fame inductee John McLaughlin, participating in his first 5K at age 75, along with wife Karine McLaughlin, directors Kim Goetsch and Natalie McLaughlin, and McLaughlin family friend Ron Dunham. The team wore shirts produced by sister company McLaughlin International, featuring a design familiar to Superman fans that utilized the New Way® "N" in a version of the iconic superhero shield.

Organizers are working to make the event an annual tradition at the Waste Expo as well as a primary fundraiser for the Reaching Employees and Communities Together (REACT) goodwill program. REACT helps FILA members and their families during difficult times such as a health emergency, fire, or storm loss. FILA also uses REACT funds to partner with well-known national charities like the American Red Cross or Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

New Way® and its parent company, Scranton Manufacturing, have a long history of charitable giving as well as active participation in industry associations like EIA that support the development of safe and environmentally responsible technologies to manage waste.

"How great that we could incorporate three things we enjoy - spending time together as a family, fitness and helping others," said Natalie McLaughlin, "We are looking forward to supporting FILA and REACT by running again next year in Atlanta."
