New Way Trucks Drives Home the Importance of Safety in the Solid Waste Industry
Scranton, IA (June 14, 2021) – The safety of its employee family, vendor-partners, and customers has always been a top priority for New Way Trucks, an industry-leading refuse truck manufacturer. Weathering the COVID-19 pandemic has brought this commitment to safety to the forefront of the company’s principles. Showing its support for enhancing safety in the industry, New Way Trucks has sponsored the 2021 Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Safety Awards.
“The men and women who collect and dispose of our waste don’t have the luxury of working from home,” says Mike McLaughlin, CEO of New Way Trucks. “Essential workers in our industry put the health and safety of their communities above all else. To give these everyday heroes the recognition they deserve, we’re proud to support the 2021 SWANA Safety Awards.”
SWANA’s Safety Awards exemplify the solid waste industry’s commitment to improving employee safety through communication, best practices, and accident review processes. Public and private sector solid waste organizations are encouraged to apply for consideration in one of three categories: Best Safety Innovation, Biggest Safety Improvement, and COVID-19 Response.
Countless organizations have done remarkable work protecting their employee families and the greater public. SWANA is now accepting applications for the awards through Wednesday, June 30th, and will recognize winners at WASTECON 2021 in Orlando, Florida, November 1-3. “People may not be aware that waste collection in North America began over 130 years ago to prevent the spread of disease and illness,” says Don Ross, New Way’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “Solid waste collection is the most visible municipal service, and therefore supporting SWANA’s Safety Awards highlights our commitment to building the industry’s safest equipment.”
New Way applauds SWANA’s efforts and actively participates in the National Waste & Recycling Association’s (NWRA) safety initiatives. The NWRA is the Secretariat for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z245 Accredited Standards Committee for Equipment Technology and Operations for Waste and Recyclable Materials. New Way is represented on all ANSI committees and is actively involved in establishing new equipment safety protocols for the industry.
Shaping the next generation of safety innovations is standard fare for New Way. As the company celebrates its 50th anniversary, it has its sights set on continuing to drive the industry forward.
